Teachers

I started started teaching guitar at ProMusic in Kitchener-Waterloo, and quickly became a fixture. By the 2000’s many of ProMusic’s teachers were former students of mine, and I’d broadened my approach to include, drums, bass, piano and violin.

It’s an approach that highlights technique and theory in the context of songs the student is familiar with, and can be adapted to include the requests of the student.

I opened the school in Cambridge in 2005, that included a recording studio. In addition to teaching several thousand students over 30 years, I’ve recorded many albums and played in many bands. But I still get the most joy teaching. I’ve had students win Juno’s, Maple Blue’s awards, and many are still in touring and performing in bands.

I took piano lessons throughout my life and went to school for Early Childhood Education. This provided the perfect foundation for creating our own unique Early Childhood Music program. As students graduated through that, I expanded my repertoire to include drums, guitar and ukulele and developed our Primary Music program. An intermediate program for students that weren’t ready for 30min private lessons on a single instrument. I also teach private lessons on piano and ukulele.

When I am not teaching you will find me at our front desk as the school’s administrator. I feel privileged to spend my days absorbed in two of my favourite things, music and people. As Joe Strummer said “Without people, you’re nothing”.

Amy Barber

Amy has been teaching voice and piano with us for over 10 years. A graduate of McMaster and RCM music programs and an outstanding performer, she’s been seen in dozen’s of musicals, a wide variety of tribute acts and currently performs with The Purpletones.

Her students have excelled at RCM exams for both voice and piano, and many are currently performing in musicals each season. Her attention to detail and gentle nature have taken many students from shy wallflowers, to confident performers.
