Early Childhood - program

Our Early Childhood Music program was designed to be a more productive alternative to many of the other programs offered to children of similar ages. Retaining the aspects of learning through hands on involvement and games, but taking a greater advantage of your child’s ability to retain information during these years. It’s taught by Jen Vasey, who is ECE certified, and group sizes range from 3-6 per class.

The program involves:

  • Trying a new instrument every week hands on, including the flute, cello, French horn, violin, steel drum, guitar, banjo etc.
  • Playing games to reinforce note values (both pitch and rhythm)
  • Playing full drum kits each week
  • Singing through microphones
  • Playing simple melodies on the keyboards and xylophones
  • Participatory theme days, including Parents Day (10th class), where parents are invited to watch the children demonstrate what they’ve learned

Our Primary Music program is more focused on piano and drum skills, and is perfect for kids wishing to expand on what they’ve learned in the Early Childhood Music program. Classes are limited to 3 students, and students spend time one on one on the keyboard with Jen. As well students spend time working on a computer theory lesson, and worksheets. The final portion of the class the students work on group drumming, where each student has their own drum kit.
